Overview

The programme is aimed at science and technology graduates who wish to extend and develop their skills to encompass a wider set of disciplines, as well as graduates who want to develop their careers in managerial roles in engineering or manufacturing or in the commercial enterprise in which they have chosen to work.

The programme is also aimed at experienced industry practitioners who wish to complement their academic knowledge and obtain professional recognition in key management areas in private industry or the public sector nationally and internationally.

At present, science and technology undergraduate degree programmes do not normally reflect the growing multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary characteristics of the modern business enterprise.

However, many trained engineers possess a high degree of analytical problem-solving ability, which can be directly transposed to the business and enterprise environment.

Skills such as optimisation and simulation, for example, although developed specifically for mechanical or electrical engineering systems are equally relevant to enterprise or engineering business management.

A systems approach to problem solving which is developed in many undergraduate engineering programmes is also directly applicable to decision making at the strategic and enterprise level.

Teaching and Assessment

This course is taught in small, interactive seminar groups at our Tech Park.

The course is delivered through seminars, workshops, tutorials, computer labs, physical labs and project practical time. You will reinforce your theoretical learning with practical engineering tasks and have the opportunity to debate and discuss your experiences with peers in interactive seminars and tutorials.

Assessments

All assessments are case based involve individual, team work, report and presentations, promoting communication skills.

The Course

You will study a selection of core and optional modules in each year. Each module is worth a number of credits and you will study 360 credits throughout your degree. Each module is delivered differently, depending on its content and focus of study.

This list is indicative and subject to change.

Individual Project

(60 credits) Independent project work is an essential part of Master’s level programmes.  The work undertaken within this module will be an individual piece of work.   The subject area of the project will be consistent with the philosophy and aims of the programme.   In all cases the student will be expected to demonstrate elements of independent thinking consistent with the expected research content of a Master’s level project.  The student should also demonstrate the ability to report on the project and to present in lay terms the concepts underpinning the work and results.
