This qualification reflects the role of individuals in a variety of information and communications technology (ICT) roles who have established specialised skills in a technical ICT function.

Individuals in these roles carry out moderately complex tasks in a specialist field, working independently, as part of a team or leading a deliverable with others. They may apply their skills across a wide range of industries, business functions and departments, or as a business owner (sole trader/contractor).

Course Structure / Units of Competency

The Diploma of Information Technology requires the successful completion of 20 units of competency.

  • Utilise design methodologies for security architecture
  • Develop, implement and evaluate an incident response plan
  • Review and update disaster recovery and contingency plans
  • Design and configure desktop virtualisation
  • Review and manage delivery of maintenance services
  • Install and upgrade operating systems
  • Manage projects using software management tools
  • Implement security for applications
  • Research and review hardware technology options for organisations

Study Pathway and Career Opportunities

After completion of Diploma of Information Technology, students may wish to undertake Advanced Diploma of Information Technology or a pathway to higher education such as:

If a qualification is only partly achieved, a Statement of Attainment is issued for successful achievement of a single or multiple unit of competency
