Take part in shows throughout your studies
You will receive training in every aspect of Musical Theatre (singing, acting and dance) with a specialist focus on developing your wider techniques and skills in performance.
This BA (Hons) Musical Theatre (Cabaret) degree is a chance to combine a traditional training in Musical Theatre with preparation for a career in cruises, holiday resorts and entertainments. The only course of its kind in the UK, you will study a very generous amount of dance (jazz, ballet, tap, commercial, body conditioning) and singing, plus ensemble, stage acting and recording studio techniques. You will have regular visits from industry professionals throughout the course.
During your first year you will study singing, acting, dance, recording studio techniques, spoken voice and entertainment skills and take part in fully staged cabaret floor shows working with musical theatre industry experts.
In the second year you will continue to develop your acting, singing and dance in regular classes and have the choice to be assessed in singing or dance as your primary study. In addition to being featured in the Cabaret Performance Company floor shows you will also audition for our fully staged Musical Theatre shows which take place in leading regional theatres including Alexander Theatre, Bognor Regis and the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth produced by leading industry creative teams.
In the third year you will appear in our fully staged Musical Theatre shows at leading regional theatres, in Cabaret Performance Company shows, in an Agents Showcase and create an industry Showreel, with regular visits from agents and industry professionals.
Working with industry partners TAGlive (Talent Artistic Group), Sonic Artists and the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, you will develop your performance skills and industry understanding with regular contact and opportunities throughout all years of study.
You will work with professional singers and dancers from the West End and the most prestigious cruise companies in the world as you develop vital skills to be competitive in the world of Musical Theatre and wider entertainment contexts.

Teaching and Assessment
How you will learn
You will study using practical classes and supplementary workshops, lectures and seminars. Your typical week will be very practical in nature and include performance technique classes in dance, singing and acting, spoken voice, supplemental training, lectures, seminars, tutorials, studio-based workshops and application of practice.
Outside of scheduled classes you will complete independent study including developing repertoire, researching texts, individual solo practise, completing individual or group tasks and working on your assignments.

You will study a selection of core and optional modules in each year. Each module is worth a number of credits is delivered differently, depending on its content and focus of study.

Musical Theatre Skills 1
This all year module focuses on the technical training in dance (jazz, ballet, tap) acting and singing which will form the foundation of your training for musical theatre. You will study a combination of dance technique and routines, acting techniques, vocal repertoire classes, musical styles and performance skills.
