Overview

Train in screen acting and musical theatre performance

This BA (Hons) Musical Theatre and Acting for Film course offers training in musical theatre dance, singing, and stage and screen acting from your first year. You will select a focus to reflect your strengths in these areas and develop specialist practical skills in television and screen acting. This combination of training is unique in the UK.

In your second and third year your can choose to audition for musical theatre performance productions at the Alexandra Theatre, other regional theatres and our own campus performance spaces. These performances range from large scale musical theatre with full pit orchestra, set and costume, to straight plays, smaller ensemble projects and dance revues. You may choose to develop skills in technical theatre and arts management roles by supporting these performance projects.

You will have the opportunity to attend a dedicated agents and industry showcase in an external venue during your third year. After you graduate you will have access to additional careers workshops and advice from leading industry professionals.

On this course you will:

  • Train in musical theatre dance, singing and stage and screen acting from your first year.
  • Develop specialist skills in television and screen acting.
  • Be able to audition for musical theatre performance projects at the Alexandra Theatre, other regional theatres and our own campus performance spaces.
  • Take part in performance productions including large scale musical theatre with full pit orchestra, straight plays, smaller ensemble projects and dance revues.
  • Have the opportunity to develop skills in technical theatre and arts management.
  • Learn from highly experienced practitioners in musical theatre and in film and television acting.

Teaching and Assessment

How you will learn

You will complete theoretical and practical study in most of your modules. Your typical study week will include practical classes, lectures, seminars, tutorials, studio-based workshops and application of practice.

Outside of scheduled classes you will complete independent study including researching texts, completing individual or group tasks and working on your assignments.
