You will study a selection of core and optional modules in each year. Each module is worth a number of credits and is delivered differently depending on its content and focus of study.
Most of our business degrees share core modules during first year. This means that you could opt to move from a joint to a single honours option at the end of the year.
This list is indicative and subject to change.

In this module you will explore fundamental accounting concepts and develop the skills and techniques you need to collect and record data and transactions to prepare accounting statements and management accounts which are key to managers. You will focus on the requirements for internal use of single entities. You will be assessed through an online exam and 45 minute in class test.
Gain practical experience
BA (Hons) Event Management and Finance was designed with event and hospitality professionals to ensure that you gain the relevant skills and experience you need to succeed in this growing and dynamic sector. This degree has a strong vocational focus that is enhanced by the work placement programme. Work placements and internships are optional and an opportunity to use the skills and knowledge you gain during your studies in the industry.
Work placements give you valuable work experience to add to your CV and help you to prepare for the workplace after you graduate. The combination of placement opportunities available will help you develop employability and enterprise skills so you are ready to thrive in business after you leave university.
There are two main types of placement available; a year-long industrial placement, and a 10 week placement during your final year. Some students will complete the placement year and the 10 week placement.
Students have found placements in the international financial and hospitality sectors including:
- Normura Investment bank
- Shangri-La Hotel
- MCI Innovative Communications
- Grange Hotel St Pauls
- Caistor Hall Hotel
- Best Parties Ever
- Concerto Group
- Rugby Players Association
- Christs Hospital
Most students secure placements in London and the South East but you do have the opportunity to travel overseas. Previous students have completed placements in Bahrain, India, Singapore and Australia.
Many placement students continue to work for companies they completed placements with once they graduate, and some are offered full time jobs even before their results are published.
Industrial Placement Year
This work placement is 1 year and takes place after your second year. During you placement year you will have a paid position with a company. You will be an employee of the company you choose as well as a registered student. The company will introduce you to the workplace and provide a valuable learning experience to support and develop your understanding of business practice.
10 Week Work Placement
During your third year you can complete a 10-week full-time work placement at the start of your final semester. This placement is usually unpaid and is assessed as a double module for your degree, with a focus on employability and personal development.
Placements begin in mid-January each year and run until the end of March. You will focus on a management project during your placement which is normally concerned with investigating management issues within the organisation.
The Business School has a dedicated placement office. We work with you and relevant businesses to help you find your best placement match and ensure that placements are suitable for your degree. You are ultimately responsible for finding your own placement, but the placement office has many contacts and advertises opportunities from organisations who come back to us each year looking for new students.
